Starbucks Chain

The ubiquity of the Starbucks coffee chain is well documented. With over 17,000 locations worldwide it is no longer surprising to find one franchise mere steps from another. Thus, the idea of a 'local' Starbucks mentioned in their advertising becomes suspect.

These maps link every Starbucks location in a city with its three closest neighbours. The matrix it produces reveals holes and clusters within the chain's overall framework. In addition, the maps reveal information about the cities themselves from visualizations of urban sprawl and suburbia to geographic features such as park spaces.
